NAKINA – Laura Davisson pitched a 2-hitter and struck out 15 batters Thursday to lead Elizabethtown to a 7-1 Waccamaw Middle School Conference softball victory over Nakina.

Davisson did not walk a batter and allowed only an unearned run on an error in the third inning.

The Lady Cougars took charge with a 5-run first inning. Davisson and Iveonna Ward drew walks, and Lainey Hughes ripped a single. Stacey Gomez and Zoe Smith drew walks, and Davisson, Ward, Hughes, Gomez and Smith all scored in the inning.

Hughes blasted a home run to lead-off the Elizabethtown third inning. Zoe Smith belted a single and scored in the inning to pad the lead to 7-0.

Hughes finished 2-4 at the plate with the homer and 2 runs scored. Zoe Smith, Davisson and Mary Frances Sutton added one hit each to the Lady Cougar attack. Zoe Smith scored twice, and Davisson, Ward, and Gomez scored one run each.

Coach Tarrah Woodruff’s Lady Cougars evened their record at 3-3 and will host Clarkton School of Discovery Tuesday.
