STANLEY – West Chatham scored 3 runs in the sixth inning to rally past Elizabethtown 13-11 Saturday in the North Carolina State Dixie Youth Baseball Coach-Pitch Tournament.
West Chatham pushed across a run in the top of he first inning, but Elizabethtown responded with 4 runs in the home half. Devance Tatum and Ryker Strickland belted one-out singles, and Tyler Eason knocked them both in with a single.
Brady Marlowe smacked a single, and Cade Rogers ripped a single that scored Eason and Marlowe for a 4-1 lead.
West Chatham capitalized on 5 hits and 3 errors to scored 7 runs in the second inning. The visitors tacked on a run in the third to go up 9-4.
Elizabethtown bounced back with a 7-run explosion in the home third to edge back in front 11-9. Omar Powell and Tatum cracked singles to start the inning. Strickland followed with a single to centerfield and an error on the play scored Powell.
Eason’s fielder’s choice plated Tatum, and Marlowe swatted a single that plated Strickland. Rogers laced a single, and Cooper Long reached base on an error that scored Marlowe.
Seth Faircloth slapped a single that scored Rogers. Jag Gooden’s fielder’s choice loaded the bases, and an error on Javonte Smith’s grounder scored Long and Faircloth.
West Chatham pulled to within 11-10 in the fifth inning, before their winning rally in the sixth inning that took advantage of a trio of errors.
Eason batted 2-3 with 3 runs batted in and a run scored for Elizabethtown. Rogers finished 2-3 at the plate with 2 rbi’s and 2 runs scored. Marlowe batted 2-3 with an rbi and 2 runs scored.
Strickland finished 2-3 at the plate with 2 runs scored. Tatum batted 2-3 with a run scored, and Powell also batted 2-3 with a run scored. Faircloth, Fox Sutton and Smith added one hit each.
Long and Faircloth scored runs, and Faircloth drove in a run.
Elizabethtown will play the Lowell/West Robeson American winner at 7 p.m. Sunday.
