NCDACSSeal_4colorRALEIGH –The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is seeking 200 seasonal employees to assist its Cooperative Grading Services during the 2016 peanut season.

“North Carolina farmers grow more than a 160 tons of peanuts,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “That’s a lot of peanuts that need grading to ensure consumers are getting a quality product.”

Seasonal graders are needed in Bladen, Bertie, Chowan, Edgecombe, Gates, Hertford, Lenoir, Martin and Northampton counties. Once hired, workers will be trained and required to obtain a license in order to grade peanuts. The peanut season is expected to run from September to the end of November, but may vary depending on growing conditions.

In July, the department will hold job fairs across Eastern North Carolina. Each job fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. New and returning graders must attend a job fair to complete an application. Each applicant must bring two forms of government-issued identification. Jobs fairs will be held at the following locations:

July 12 – Lenoir County Center, 1791 Hwy11/55, Kinston

July 13 – Roanoke Chowan Community College, Freeland Building, 109 Community College Road, Ahoskie

July 14 – Golden Peanut Company, 330 Halifax Street, Enfield

The department’s grading services section consists of 61 full-time employees and 35 temporary employees that grade peanuts, as well as poultry, grain, fruits and vegetables. More information is available at www.ncagr.gov/markets/gradnreg.
