A. J. Smith and Cate DeVane Advance to State
CARY – East Bladen senior A. J. Smith and sophmore Cate DeVane advanced to the NCHSAA Class 2A Cross Country State Championships with their performances Saturday in the Class 2A Mid East Regional.

Smith finished ninth in the boys race with a time of 19:08.91. DeVane was tenth in the girls race and improved on her own school record with a time of 24:13.65.
The State Class 2A Championship Meet will be held Friday afternoon at the Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex in Kernersville.
Other Bladen finishers in Saturday’s girls race included West Bladen sophmore Lainey Autry (24th in 26:50.16); West Bladen freshman Violet Allen (35th in 30:29.04): and West Bladen sophmore Kaden Thurman (36th in 30:29.98).
Rounding out the Bladen runners were: West Bladen sophmore Azilliyah McDonald (39th in 32:43.11); West Bladen junior Olivia Allen (40th in 33:00.15) and East Bladen junior Sydney Gardner (41st in 37:16.72).
