BARCO – Senior Karrigan Belangia pitched a 2-hit shutout and struck out 7 batters to lead Currituck County to a 3-0 victory over East Bladen in the NCHSAA Class 2A Softball Playoffs Tuesday.

Senior Carlie West laced a single to left-centerfield in the 3rd inning for the 1st East Bladen hit.

In the 7th inning, sophomore Emma Turbeville ripped a 1-out single to left-centerfield, and sophomore Karli Priest reached base on an error. However, a fly-out to rightfield and a line-out to second base ended the game.

Senior Karleigh Raynor pitched a 6-hitter for the Lady Eagles and allowed 3 runs – 1 earned – and walked one.

The Lady Knights bunched singles by freshman Addyson Romanczyk, senior Elizabeth Hewitt and junior Gracey Capps with 2 East Bladen errors to score 2 runs in the 3rd inning.

Capps led off the Currituck 6th inning with a single and scored on freshman Mirenda Shields’ single to pad the lead to 3-0. Capps led the Lady Knight hitters with a 2-for-3 night at the plate.

Coach Chris Davisson’s Lady Eagles completed their season with a 7-7 record. Currituck County improved to 11-3 on the season advances to play Midway in the 2nd round.
