Southport – Kings Mountain defeated Bladen County 8-5 Saturday in the opening round of the North Carolina Dixie Pre-Majors Tournament.
Bladen County will play the loser of Saturday’s Columbus County/North Granville game Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
The first Bladen run came in the third inning. Cody Butler walked, and Brady Hollingsworth beat out a bunt single. Drew Sholar and Xavier McKoy drew walks, and Cody Butler scored.
Bladen County added 3 runs in the fifth. Ethan Johnson led off the inning with a single, and Gabe Barber belted a single. Zach Meares’ bunt single scored Johnson, and Cody Butler’s fielder’s choice brought home Barber. Hollingsworth hammered a double to centerfield that drove in Meares.
The Bladen team added a run in the sixth inning. Zach Butler drew a lead-off walk, and Barber laced a single to centerfield. Meares knocked in Zach Butler with a single to left-centerfield.
Hollingsworth batted 3-4 with a double and a run batted in. Barber finished 3-4 at the plate with a run scored. Meares batted 2-4 with 2 rbi’s and a run scored.
Cody Butler and Jared Piland added one hit each. Cody Butler, Johnson, and Zach Butler scored runs. Cody Butler had an rbi.
