Rahu Purdie LanderWhite Oak native Rahu Purdie drained a trio of 3-point shots and scored 14 points Wednesday night, but his Lander Bearcats were edged 78-77 by UNC-Pembroke in Peach Belt Conference basketball action at Greenwood, SC.

Purdie connected on 5 of his 6 shots from the field and made 3 of 4 three-point attempts. The 5-9 freshman dished out 3 assists and had one rebound.

The West Bladen grad hit a free throw then dropped in a pair of lay-ups to tie the score 26-26 with 6:51 left in the first half. Purdie bombed in a 3-point shot with 2:08 left in the half that capped a 10-2 Bearcat run and put Lander up 36-28.

Purdie fired in another 3-point shot with 7:35 remaining that vaulted the Bearcats in front 58-56. The Bearcats pulled to within 78-77 on Purdie’s 3-point basket with 2 seconds left to play.

The Bearcats remained in first place in the Peach Belt’s Eastern Division with a 10-5 record and are 16-8 overall. Lander will travel to Flagler Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. game.
