ELIZABETHTOWN – West Bladen’s Kaden Thurman won 2 matches Tuesday to advance to Wednesday’s singles championship match in the Southeastern Athletic Conference at East Bladen High.

Advancing to Wednesday matches in the singles consolation bracket were East Bladen’s Heather Hardin and West Bladen’s Courtney Hester who will play each other.

In the doubles consolation bracket Wednesday, East Bladen’s team of Jessica Johnson and Ashlyn Williams will play the West Bladen team of Kiera Lewis and Brookee Singletary. In another consolation match, East Bladen’s Jayden Willington and McKenzie Williams will play St. Pauls’ Zuri Cantor and Zeydi Regino.

Thurman, the top seed in the singles tournament, posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory over St. Pauls’ Camille Kinard in her opening match then defeated Clinton’s Melina Matthews 6-2, 6-2 in her semi-final match. The West Bladen junior will face the winner of the other semi-final between Clinton’s Zoey Brewer and Fairmont’s Trinity Thompson, the No. 3 seed, in the title match.

Hardin, the No. 2 seed, dropped her opening match to Brewer 7-6, 6-2. Courtney Hester lost to Thompson 7-6, 6-2. East Bladen’s Reese Hester dropped her opening match to Kinard 6-1, 5-7, 6-2. The winner of the match between Kinard and Fairmont’s Addison Waldo will play the Hardin/Courtney Hester winner.

In opening round doubles matches, West Bladen’s Yari Santana and Mauri Flores lost to Fairmont’s Skyler McNeill and Hannah Pearson 7-5, 6-3. West Bladen’s Lewis and Singletary opened with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Red Springs’ Madison McNeill and Destiny Locklear.

East Bladen’s Ashlyn Williams and Johnson defeated St. Pauls Lizeth Martinez and Danna Soriano 6-3, 6-1.

In 2nd round play, East Bladen’s Willington and McKenzie Williams (the No. 4 seed) were defeated by Fairmont’s McNeill and Pearson 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. Ashlyn Williams and Johnson lost to Fairmont’s Helen Perry and Soraya Locklear 6-1, 6-2.

Lewis and Singletary dropped their 2nd round match to Clinton’s Kate Randleman and Haley Carter 5-7, 7-5, 6-2.
