LAKE WACCAMAW – West Bladen scored 4 runs in the top of the 1st, but East Columbus scored the next 19 runs and defeated the Lady Knights 19-4 Thursday night in West’s non-conference softball season opener.

Eight West errors and 9 Lady Gator hits produced the first 11 East Columbus runs – only 3 of those runs were earned. Catcher Sara Coleman batted 2-for-2, tripled, doubled and had 3 runs batted in for East. MacKenzi Clemmons was 2-for-2 with 2 RBIs. Chynna Patrick doubled, scored twice and had 2 RBIs.

West senior Gracie Faircloth lined a single to centerfield to start the game, advanced on junior Marlene Crabtree’ sacrifice and scored as sophomore Kali Allen reached base on an error. Junior Kallie Bass and sophomores Natalee Sykes and Brenna Hester drew walks that forced home Allen. Junior Holland Davis knocked in Bass and Sykes with a single to center.

Faircloth batted 2-for-2 with a run scored to lead the Lady Knight hitters. Davis smacked the 2-run single. Hester had a run batted in, and Allen, Bass and Sykes scored runs. Faircloth started in the circle for West, and Gracie Coyle pitched 3 innings for East.

West Bladen will travel to East Bladen Tuesday night.
