ROCKY POINT – Senior Chloe Barnhill pitched a 3-hitter and struck out 6 batters to lead Heide Trask to an 8-3 Waccamaw Conference softball victory over East Bladen Tuesday night.

East Bladen, now 1-6 in league play and 3-7 overall, will host Trask Friday night. Heide Trask improved to 4-1 in league play and 9-1 overall.

A bunt single, 2 walks, a wild pitch, sophomore Naima Shepherd’s run-scoring single and a 2-run single by freshman Taylor Sparkman produced 4 Lady Titan runs in the 1st inning. Sophomore Jalyn Reece-Murray singled and scored on a passed ball to pad the lead to 5-0 in the 2nd.

Sophomore Niyah Wooten smashed a single to center field in the Lady Eagle 4th inning. Sophomore Jenna Brice walked, and sophomore Gracey Clark laid down a sacrifice bunt. An error on the play scored Wooten and freshman Nadya Colon, the courtesy runner for Brice, to trim the margin to 5-2.

Sparkman belted a double to left field in the bottom of the 4th and 2 bunts and 2 errors led to a pair of Trask runs and stretched the Lady Titan lead to 7-2.

Wooten yanked a single to left in the 6th inning and circled the bases on a passed ball and 2 wild pitches to whittle the margin to 7-3.

Wooten finished 2-for-3 at the plate and scored 2 runs. Junior Martha Simmons cracked a single and Colon scored a run.

Brice pitched a complete game and allowed 8 runs – 5 earned – on 8 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3.

Sparkman batted 2-for-3 with 2 runs batted in, a double and a run scored. Reece-Murray was 2-for-3 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Sheppard drove in a run, and freshman Dava Bullard singled and scored twice.
