BURGAW – Gracie Vincent pitched a 2-hitter, and Imani Newkirk homered to lead Pender to a 13-0 Four County Conference softball victory over East Bladen Tuesday night.

Vincent struck out 5 and walked one. Newkirk, the granddaughter of Elizabethtown’s Dixie Youth District Director Carl Newkirk, slugged a 3-run homer in the third inning and added two doubles to finish 3-4 at the plate with 5 runs batted in and 2 runs scored.

Alana Buie batted 3-3 with 2 doubles for the Lady Patriots, and Ashley Dupalevich was 2-3 with a double. Jenna Harrell also turned in a 2-3 game for Pender.

Junior catcher Emily Scott slammed a first-inning double and cracked a third-inning single to finish a perfect 2-2 at the plate for the Lady Eagles. Senior Lauren Merritt drew a fifth-inning walk, and sophmore Shardajah Brown reached base on a second-inning error.

The Lady Eagles, now 2-7 in league play and 3-8 overall, will travel to Clinton Thursday for a 6 p.m. game.
