TABOR CITY — Senior Olivia Watts pitched a 4-hitter and struck out 6, and senior Brileigh Ward knocked in 3 runs with 3 hits to lead South Columbus to an 8-1 Waccamaw Conference softball victory over East Bladen Friday night.

The Lady Eagles, now 0-2 in Waccamaw play, will host East Columbus Tuesday night, while South Columbus improved to 4-1 (2-0 in Waccamaw) and will host West Bladen Monday night.

The Lady Stallions bunched singles by Carmen Buck, Blake and Ward and senior Jada McDowell’s run-scoring double to take a 3-0 lead in the 1st inning. Senior Reah Lee singled, stole 2nd and scored on Blake’s single in the 3rd inning.

Singles by Cribb and Buck, an error, and Ward’s 2-run double stretched the South lead to 7-0 in the 4th. Lee walked, moved up on a steal and a wild pitch and scored on Ward’s single in the 6th.

Sophomore Gracey Clark and junior Martha Simmons belted singles to begin the Lady Eagle 6th inning. Clark raced to 3rd base on Simmons’ hit. Sophomore Jenna Brice reached base on an error as Clark scored.

Junior Mollie Tolar hammered a 1st inning triple for East Bladen, and Clark, Simmons and freshman Tatum Allen smacked singles for the other Lady Eagle hits. Clark scored a run. Brice pitched a complete game and allowed 8 runs – 7 earned – on 10 hits and 5 walks while striking out 3.

Ward finished 3-for-4 at the plate with double, 3 runs batted in and a run scored. Buck was 2-for-4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Blake batted 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and a run scored. McDowell had the RBI double.
