Wallace-Rose Hill scored 4 runs in the top of the seventh to pull away and hand East Bladen’s Lady Eagles an 8-3 Four County Conference softball defeat at East Thursday night.

Three singles, a walk and freshman Ella Smith’s 2-run double highlighted the Lady Bulldog seventh inning rally.

Wallace-Rose Hill pushed across an unearned run in the first, but the Lady Eagles tied the game in the home first. Sophmore Kaley Smith walked, and freshman Anna Kate White was hit by a pitch. Senior Miller Heustess smacked a single to rightfield that drove in Smith.

The first two batters in the Wallace third inning singled, but East Bladen catcher Emily Scott threw out one of them attempting to steal second base. After a fielder’s choice and a walk, a couple of errors on the same play plated 2 runs.

The Lady Bulldogs tacked on a run in the fourth on a walk and a bloop single to pad the lead to 4-1. Scott limited the damage by throwing out another Wallace runner attempting to steal.

Heustess led off the East Bladen sixth inning by belting a single to right. Scott ripped a shot off the shortstop’s chest and beat it out.Heustess raced home from second base on a passed ball that the Wallace catcher had trouble finding. Sophmore Shardajah Brown knocked in Scott with a single to rightfield that trimmed the margin to 4-3.

‘I didn’t expect to stay with that team the way that we did,” said Lady Eagle Coach Patty Evers. “The girls made plays in the infield, and the outfield really hustled and got the ball back in. I couldn’t be happier with their improvement.”

Heustess batted 2-3 with a run batted in and a run scored. Brown also finished 2-3 at the plate and drove in a run. Scott singled and scored a run.

Freshman Haven Williams pitched the 5-hitter for Wallace, striking out 13 and walking three. Junior Haley Rivenbark batted 3-5, and junior LeAnna Hanchey was 3-4 at the plate. Junior Sara Darling and sophmore Ellen Casteen both finished 2-4 at the plate.

East Bladen, now 2-4 in the league and 3-5 overall, will host Midway Tuesday at 6 p.m.
