DUBLIN – Alara Cashwell and Carley Dawson slugged home runs and drove in 9 runs to lead West Bladen to an 11-2 Three Rivers Conference softball victory over West Columbus Friday night.

Cashwell, a sophmore catcher, batted 4-4 with a home run, a double, 5 runs batted in and 2 runs scored. Dawson, a junior firstbaseman, finished 3-4 at the plate with a home run, a double, 4 rbi’s and 2 runs scored.

The Lady Knights grabbed a 2-0 first-inning lead. Sophomore Kyla Reed dotted the leftfield line with a double, and Cashwell clobbered a 2-run homer over the leftfield fence.

West Columbus tied the game 2-2 in the third inning. Pitcher Leah Floyd singled, and Kristen Meares clubbed a 2-run homer over the centerfield fence.

In the home third, senior Brittney Landreth beat out an infield hit, and Reed reached base on an error. Cashwell drilled a double to the left-centerfield gap that scored Landreth and Reed. Carley Dawson hammered a double to right-centerfield that scored Cashwell for a 5-2 Lady Knight lead.

With 2 out in the home fifth, Cashwell ripped a single to left, and Carley Dawson lined a single to left-centerfield. After senior Madison Collins walked, senior Abby Dawson slapped a single through the middle that drove in Elizabeth Allbright, the courtesy runner for Cashwell, and Carley Dawson and upped the count to 7-2.

With 2 out in the home sixth, Landreth lined a double down the leftfield line, and Reed beat out an infield hit. Cashwell raked a single to left that scored Landreth, and Carley Dawson crushed a 3-run homer to leftfield for the final margin.

Collins pitched a complete game 3-hitter and struck out 5 with 2 walks and a hit batsman. Abby Dawson batted 2-3 with 2 rbi’s, and Landreth finished 2-4 at the plate with a double and 2 runs scored. Reed batted 2-4 with a double and 2 runs scored.

“This is a good win for us,” said Lady Knight Coach Pam Stephens. “Our defense looked much better, and we had been waiting for Carley to break-out with the bat and she did.”

West Bladen improved to 4-2 in league play and 4-3 overall and will travel to St. Pauls Tuesday night.
