CERRO GORDO – Juniors Kylie Durden and Madison Taylor combined to pitch a 1-hit shutout, and West Bladen exploded for 13 runs in the 2nd inning en route to a 21-0 non-conference softball victory over West Columbus Friday night.

Durden started in the circle for the Lady Knights and pitched 2 hitless innings, while striking out 2, hitting a batter and walking one. Taylor worked the final 3 innings in relief, striking out 3 and allowing a 5th inning single to the Lady Vikings’ Anna Ivey.

The Lady Knights capitalized on 10 hits, 14 walks, 9 hit batters and 2 Lady Viking errors to score their 21 runs. West Bladen scored 3 runs in the 1st inning, 13 in the 2nd and 5 more in the third.

Taylor batted a perfect 3-for-3, walked twice, drove in 5 runs and scored three. She belted a 2-run single to left field in the 3rd inning, smacked a run-scoring hit in the 4th inning and belted another 2-run single to close out the Lady Knight scoring in the fourth.

Senior Jessalynn Vendrick walloped a double and a triple, was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate, was hit twice by pitches, walked, scored 5 runs and had 2 runs batted in. She cleaned the bases with a 2-run triple in the 3rd inning and hammered the double in the 4th inning.

Sophomore Gracie Faircloth smashed 2 doubles, knocked in 5 runs and scored one. She ripped a pair of 2-run doubles in the 2nd inning. Sophomore Marlene Crabtree batted 2-3 with a walk, a RBI and a run scored. She yanked a run-scoring single to left in the 2nd inning.

Durden doubled, walked 3 times, scored 3 runs and drove in two. She swatted a 2-run double to center field in the 2nd inning. Sophomore Emmee Ward walked, was hit by a pitch and scored twice. Junior Mackenzie Singletary walked, was hit by a pitch and had 1 RBI.

Junior Kaitlynn Brisson walked twice, was hit by a pitch and scored twice. Sophomore Lena Trinidad was hit by a pitch, walked and scored a run. Sophomore Megan Pait was hit by a pitch and scored twice. Seniors Briley Stanley and Olivia Allen both drew walks and scored runs.

Sophomore Marlie Walters and freshman Holland Davis were both hit by pitches and Walters scored a run.

Brooke Dyson and Isabella Rogers shared the pitching duties for West Columbus.

Coach Pam Stephens’ Lady Knights (1-2) posted their first win of the season and will host South Columbus Tuesday at 6 p.m.
