HOPE MILLS — Overhills used a single, a hit batter, 2 errors and 4 stolen bases to score 2 runs in the top of the 8th inning and defeat West Bladen 5-3 Tuesday in their final game in the South View Baseball Invitational.

The Knights, now 5-7, will return to Southeastern Athletic Conference play Tuesday night at Midway. Overhills evened their record at 6-6 with the victory.

Junior Houston Poole raced to 2nd base on an error to start the decisive rally. Poole stole 3rd base then scored the go-ahead run on an error. Senior Brysen Ribbeck beat out an infield hit, and Jordan Frink was hit by a pitch. Ribbeck and Frink worked a double steal, and Ribbeck stole home to pad the lead to 5-3.

Ribbeck tripled and scored a 2nd inning run on Darren Ludwick’s double. An error and William Nena’s double produced another Jaguar run in the 4th inning. An error, a Frink single and a sacrifice fly pushed the Overhills lead to 3-0 in the 6th.

Freshman Ashton Davis smacked a single, and junior Cade Allen reached base on an error in the Knight half of the 6th. After Davis was forced out at 3rd, sophomore Hunter Hester was hit by a pitch. Junior Aiden Russ walked to force home Allen, and sophomore Josh Dawson lined a single to right that scored senior Jordan Hester. Senior Jahmar Richardson’s sacrifice fly plated Hunter Hester with the tying run.

Davis started on the hill and pitched 7 innings for the Knights allowing 3 runs – 1 earned – on 4 hits and a walk while striking out 3. Junior Garrett Dunham worked an inning of relief and allowed 2 runs – 1 earned – on a hit and 2 errors while striking out 1.

Davis batted 3-for-4 to lead the West hitters. Allen, Aiden Russ and Dawson added 1 hit each. Aiden Russ, Dawson and Richardson drove in 1 run each. Allen, Jordan Hester and Hunter Hester scored 1 run each.

Poole pitched 5 scoreless innings for Overhills and allowed 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 2. Sophomore Kolt Berry worked 3 innings of relief and gave up 3 runs – 1 earned – on 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3.

Ribbeck batted 2-for-4 with a triple and 3 runs scored to lead the Jaguar attack. Ludwick doubled and drove in 2 runs. Nena doubled and drove in 1 run. Frink singled and scored a run.
