We are entering hurricane season, if past history is any indication of what lies ahead. Remember hurricane Hazel? It roared through our area in October,1954, 53 years ago. It made landfall near Calabash, NC, wiped out several nearby beach communities, then traveled north into Canada causing nearly $400 million (1954 numbers) in damage and caused 95 fatalities in the US, following at least 400 deaths in Haiti and later, another 81 in Canada.
Hurricane season in the Atlantic runs from June 1 to November 30. Storms outside those dates are not unheard of, based on the average over the past 150 years. Activity ramps up in August, and peaks in early September, then again in October. FYI.
If you are old enough to remember, hard to forget.
Had the opportunity to attend a retirement party for departing Star TMC General Manager & Executive VP Lyman Horne recently. He leaves having served in various positions for 37 years. The Fantastic Shakers provided entertainment and they were fantastic.
Longtime Star employee Jeff Nethercutt assumes the top spot at Star.
And, when your family is small in numbers, as our immediate family is, a new addition is note-worthy, at least for us. Looking forward to a new granddaughter-in-law, a Texan. More later…..
Hope your Sunday is good, and we get some rain.
