Thoughts While Shaving

BladenOnline continues to be a busy place. Thursday, December 7, 2017, we recorded 47,641 page views, 6th most in our nearly 10 year history. A couple of news stories topped the list, the Downing sentence and a Clarkton murder were the main factors. Sad news, but good news. You do the crime, you pull the time.

From one extreme to another, there is no greater feeling for a parent or grandparent than to witness a young family member reach another milestone, and this time of year many are graduating and ready to move on, into the real world and make this a better place. That is really good news.

Pray for the sick, and be sure to include Robby Priest and his family. Coach Priest is recuperating from recent surgery.

Wesley Chapel Chancel Choir will entertain Sunday night at Lu Mil Festival of Lights, under the direction of Wanda Herring. Actually singing a few songs from this years’ Cantata, ‘Christmas is Real’. The entire Cantata is set for Sunday, December 17, 6 PM in the church sanctuary. And, speaking of Wesley’s Chapel, a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service will be held Sunday, December 24, 6 PM at the church. All are welcome!

Services are planned at churches throughout the area. It’s a most wonderful time of the year!

I love reminiscing about Christmases long, long ago, with mom and dad, both now deceased, with brothers and sisters, grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, and friends. Tea cakes at Granny Cains’, can see Grandma Hester, preparing a feast, arm shaking (she suffered from palsy, or something related), Grandpa Kingsbury Hester listening to the Chuck Wagon Gang on his battery operated AM radio, poppin’ and crackin’. My Grandpa Marshall Cain died when I was very, very young, to young to remember much about him. Those were the days my friend, I thought they would never end, but they have. Memories are about all that remain, wonderful memories.

Now enjoy making memories with children and grandchildren and their family and friends and siblings. Hope you will be doing the same this Christmas season. Preparations are underway.

It’s not what’s under the Christmas tree that matters but who’s around it. Charlie Brown
