July 4th holiday ends today.  For many, back to the normal routine early tomorrow morning.

What a mess in Daytona.  A huge crash, early in the race, wiped out about half the field, including many of the big names.  22 year old Erik Jones picked up his first win on the biggest stage of all.  He passed Martin Truex on the final lap to win the Coke Zero Sugar 400.  A.J. Almendinger finished 3rd, Kasey Kahn 4th and Chris Buescher rounded out the top 5 finishers.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. retired at the end of last season, is now on the NBC broadcast team and getting positive  reviews after a couple of races.

Sincere Smith, East Bladen grad, is now a member of the Yankee’s rookie west team in Florida.  To follow his progress, GOOGLE Gulf Coast League.  He apparently just joined the team as a shortstop, has played in a couple of games, limited play, still looking for his first hit.

Over 1.5 inches of rain over the previous 48 hours at the Hester household, much less a few miles east at the Curtis Brown Airport, according to the National Weather Service.  Cooler weather is welcomed.

Bladen County Commissioners meet in regular session Monday evening, 6:30 PM in the courthouse.  Their meetings are open to the public.
