Just thinking out loud, seems to me competition for many local businesses is not just the merchant across the street, down the street or in a nearby town, it’s Amazon or Walmart both attempting to ‘out do’ the other, with such service as one day delivery. Tough competition. Wonder if local units of government are seeing sales tax revenue erode, or is all due being received?
I am from the old school. I tend to purchase locally and service is nearly as important as the price.
More and more we continue to hear about our Social Security running short on $s,. For senior citizens and the younger folks still working, don’t want to hear it. Saw a chart recently related to average life expectancy. Did you know that in 1900 the average life expectancy for a male in the US was 46.3 years and for a female 48.3?
Year Male life expectancy for Female
1940 60.8 65.2
1970 67.1 74.7
1990 71.8 78.8
2018 76.0 81.0
So, thankfully, we are living longer, but suppose Social Security rules and regulations were based on data from years ago, helps us better understand, sort of. The real problem is we are living longer. We pay big bucks for those who promise to better represent us at every level of government, they have all the answers, so, just fix it one way or the other. For many senior citizens, it is their lifeline, it’s all the income they have. Home aid is more important than foreign aid.

If marriage were outlawed, only outlaws would have in-laws.
Brain cells come and brain cells go, but fat cells live forever.
It’s frustrating when you (think) have all the answers, but nobody bothers to ask you the questions.
