Hot weather is in control in the area… Temps dropped dramatically late in the day, yesterday… The highest temp recorded Tuesday was 100 degrees before the late afternoon showers… Yesterday’s low was in the mid-70s.
Rainfall totals for the previous 24 hours were just over 1.25 inches, with most coming near 6 p.m. and another shower just before midnight…
The next chance of rain is likely today, between 10 & 11 a.m. Today’s high temp is expected to be near 89 degrees.
Tonight, a 50% chance of rain… mostly cloudy, with lows in the low 70s. Thursday, a 50% chance of rain… Partly cloudy, high near 90, heat index as high as 101.
Beginning Friday and continuing thru Tuesday… high temps expected to range from low to mid-90s, daily…no mention of rain. I can’t rule it out…
We are moving on… High School varsity football begins Friday night… East and West Bladen are playing nonconference games… The following action is Thursday’s Jayvee play… West at South Columbus… North Brunswick at East Bladen… Kick-off for both JV games is 6 p.m.

Final numbers should be released soon on the Bladen We Care fundraiser earlier this year… Numbers are being tabulated… It could be the best ever… $s used to assist numerous agencies and individuals in the area… Past years have provided nursing scholarships at BCC and UNC-P for some Bladen County high school graduates…

Still much conversation and speculation related to allowing casinos in the state… If it is to be… details could be included in the state budget, now nearly a month late… The latest information indicates it could be a couple more months before we know the rest of the story.
