ST PAULS – West Bladen’s Knights won 10 of 16 events to win a 4-way Southeastern Athletic Conference meet Monday over St. Pauls, Red Springs and Fairmont. The Lady Knights were edged by Fairmont 47-46 in the girls meet.

Coach Stanley Williams’ Knights piled up 113.5 points to finish way ahead of host St. Pauls (59 points). Red Springs was 3rd with 27.5 points, and Fairmont tallied 14 points.

The Lady Tornadoes posted a 25-10 edge in the sprints to take the girls meet. West Bladen dominated the throwing events 10-0 and had a 13-10 advantage in the hurdles. St. Pauls was 3rd in the girls meet with 43 points, and Red Springs scored 25 points.

Seniors Josiah Brown and Keegan Hardison and junior Tydrick Stewart won 2 events each for the Knights. Brown won the 110 meter hurdles (17.2 seconds), and the 300 meter hurdles (48.3 seconds). He also placed 3rd in the long jump (19 feet, 1 inch) and was 4th in the 400 meters (57.0).

Haraldson won the 800 meter run (2 minutes, 25 seconds) and the 1600 meter run (5 minutes, 19 seconds) and was 3rd in the 400 meters (56.5 seconds). Stewart won the 200 meter dash (24.7 seconds) and 100 meter dash (11.5 seconds).

Knight junior Deonte Lacey won the shot put with a heave of 39 feet. Senior Javonta Matthews leaped 5 feet, 8 inches to win the high jump. Senior Bradley Taylor won the 3200 meter run in 13 minutes, 32 seconds, and was 4th in the 1600 meters (6:19). The Knights ‘A’ team won the 4×100 meter relay in 46.3 seconds.

Sophomore Trinity VanEyken was the only Lady Knight to win an individual event as she finished 1st in the 110 meter hurdles (19.3 seconds). Van Eyken was 4th in the 300 meter hurdles (57.0). The Lady Knights 4×100 meter relay team won with a time of 56.8 seconds.

The Knight men dominated the discus as senior Craig Williams captured 2nd place with a throw of 88 feet, 6 inches. Senior teammate Demarius Robinson was 3rd (88-4); junior Xavier Lopez placed 4th (86-6) and Lacey was 5th (85-2). Lopez finished 2nd in the shot put (35-0) followed by Robinson who was 3rd (34-0).

West Bladen’s 4×200 meter relay team was 2nd in 1:40.65, and the 4×100 meter relay ‘B” team was 2nd (48.5). The Knights dominated the speed events as sophomore Stefane Jessup placed 2nd in the 100 meters (11.6) followed by sophomores Malijah McKoy (3rd in 11.6) and Messyah Whitted (5th in 12.0).

Sophomore Deyon McDonald followed Brown in the 110 meter hurdles placing 3rd in 20.4 seconds. Sophomore Shaun Walker was 5th in 21.8. Walker also placed 5th in the 800 meters (2:44). Senior Travail Baldwin was 5th in the long jump (18-2). Freshman Dorien Rivera placed 5th in the 1600 meters (6:47).

Knight freshman Jaiden Ward finished 2nd in the 3200 meters (13:40), and senior Jalen Wilson was 3rd in the 1600 meters (6:06).

Lady Knight sophomore Kiera Lewis racked up points as she finished 2nd in the long jump (16-1), 3rd in the 100 meters (14.0) and 5th in the 110 meter hurdles (21.3). Junior Shanyla Hunter was 3rd in the long jump (15-3) and 4th in the 100 meters (14.5).

Sophomore Harmony Jacobs placed 2nd in the discus (62-7) and 3rd in the shot put (25-6) for West. Senior teammate India Haskins was 4th in the discus (50-2) and 5th in the shot put (23-7). Senior Nykia Blackwell placed 4th in the 110 meter hurdles and 3rd in the 400 meters (1:17.7).

Junior Azillyah McDonald was 3rd in the 110 meter hurdles, and sophomore Trinity Meares was 4th in the 200 meters (30.8).

Other Knights competing in the boys meet were juniors Jordan Underwood and Gary Parker, sophomores Travis Baxley and Christopher Perez and freshmen Tavion Curtis, Noah Hall, Justin Lloyd and Raul Morales. Other Lady Knights competing were freshmen Destyni Blackwell and Sierra Lawson.
