ELIZABETHTOWN – Red Springs eked out a 3-2 Three Rivers Conference volleyball victory over East Bladen Thursday night by set scores of 25-23, 26-24, 22-25, 24-26 and 15-13. In the entire match, Red Springs outscored East Bladen 112-111 in points.

A 4-point service run by senior Sarah Johnson pulled the Lady Eagles to within 23-22 in the first set, before Red Springs served out the set.

Junior Gracyn Martin rallied East Bladen into an 18-17 lead in the second set with 5 straight service points. Four more service points from junior Lila McDuffie padded the Lady Eagle lead to 23-19, before a 7-1 run by Red Springs claimed the set.

Red Springs grabbed an early 7-0 lead in the third set, before a trio of service points from junior Lorna Mendell and a 7-point run service run by Martin tied the set 14-14. The Lady Red Devils forged a 22-21 lead, but Martin served out the set with 4 service points.

Mendell reeled off 4 straight service points in the fourth set to edge East ahead 6-5. Johnson fired in ten straight service points to give the Lady Eagles a 21-14 lead. Red Springs answered with a 10-3 spurt, but McDuffie served out the set at 26-24 and tied the match.

Red Springs jumped out to an 11-3 lead in the final set, but Martin knocked in 5 consecutive service points to close the gap to 12-10. A pair of service points from Johnson pulled East to within 14-13, but a side-out gave the Lady Red Devils the win.

Martin poured in 23 service points to lead the Lady Eagles. Johnson racked up 19 service points. Mendell finished with 9 service points, and McDuffie followed with 8 service points. Junior Cybli Campbell tallied 4 service points, and sophmore Katie Evans added 2 service points.

Coach Sara Ward’s Lady Eagles will travel to West Columbus Tuesday.
