Whiteville Central 43, Elizabethtown 36, Overtime
ELIZABETHTOWN – D. J. Shipman scored 9 of his 15 points in the final quarter and overtime as Whiteville Central outlasted Elizabethtown 43-36 in Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys basketball action.
The Cougars fell behind 7-0 in the first quarter then rallied to within 18-14 at halftime. Dominick Collins fired in 4 baskets to ignite the Cougar comeback. Teammate Darius Williamson sank a basket and 2 free throws, and DeJohn Lesane dropped in a basket.
Collins threw in 3 baskets and a free throw in the third quarter, and Williamson and Lesane pumped in baskets as the Cougars trimmed the Central lead to 27-25.
J’Marius Smith, Chris Harding, Williamson and Lesane flipped in baskets as the Cougars tied the game 33-33 at the end of regulation. Collins made 2 free throws, and Lesane hit one, but the Hornets outscored Elizabethtown 10-3 in overtime.
Elizabethtown, now 1-2 in AA Division play and 1-3 overall, will travel to Williams Township Monday
