RIEGELWOOD – Elizabethtown defeated South Columbus 7-5 Saturday in the opening round of the Dixie Youth Baseball District 2 AAA (Minors) Supplemental Tournament.

Omar Powell led off the Elizabethtown first inning with a single and scooted home when pitcher DeVance Tatum belted a single.

The winners tacked on two more runs in the second inning. Brice Scott, Wilson Clifton and Jamari Peterson cracked consecutive singles, and Scott and Wilson Clifton scored runs.

Tatum ignited a four-run Elizabethtown third inning with a single, and Walker Clifton and Cade Rogers smashed singles. Ryker Strickland walked, and Scott hammered a triple that cleaned the bases. Tatum, Walker Clifton, Rogers and Strickland all scored in the inning.

Scott finished 2-for-2 at the plate with a triple and a run scored. Tatum also batted 2-for-2 with a run scored. Powell, Walker Clifton, Rogers, Wilson Clifton and Peterson finished with one hit each. Powell, Walker Clifton, Rogers, Strickland and Wilson Clifton scored runs.

Elizabethtown advances to a winners bracket game Sunday night at 6:30 against Whiteville, a 12-1 winner over Columbus County.
