All three Bladen County teams – Dublin, Galeed and Hickory Grove – are still alive in the Lumber River Church Softball League’s Women’s Tournament.
Dublin, the regular-season champions, opened tournament play Tuesday night with a 10-5 victory over Hyde Park Tuesday then rolled to a 22-7 win over Antioch Thursday night.
Galeed, the regular-season runners-up, defeated Zion Hill Tuesday night then outlasted Broadridge 10-7 Thursday night.
Dublin and Galeed will play in the winner’s bracket Saturday at 5 p.m. at Sammy Cox Park in Lumberton. The winner of that game will advance to the tournament championship at 7 p.m., while the 5 p.m. loser will turn around and play again at 6 p.m.
Hickory Grove was edged by Antioch in their tourney opener Monday night but rebounded with a 17-7 victory over Hyde Park Thursday night.
Hickory Grove will play Broadridge at 7 p.m. Friday at Dublin. A victory would advance Hickory Grove to a 9 p.m. game against the winner of Antioch and Zion Hill. Two wins Friday night would send Hickory Grove into Saturday’s 6 p.m. game at Sammy Cox Park against the Dublin/Galeed loser.
