CERRO GORDO – Senior Ty Watkins pitched five shutout innings and East Bladen held on for a 6-3 Three Rivers Conference baseball victory over West Columbus Tuesday night.

Watkins struck out six and worked around 6 walks and 4 hits to pick up the win. Senior Xavier Wooten relieved in the sixth inning and allowed 3 walks, a hit batter and 2 runs while striking out one. Pierce Melvin pitched the seventh and gave up a run on 2 hits and a walk while striking out one.

The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Junior Shy Pone and senior Quinton Bedsole drew walks, and freshman Brady Hollingsworth knocked in Pone with a single.

Pone walked again to begin the Eagles 5-run sixth inning. Watkins drove home Pone with a single, Bedsole walked, and Hollingsworth was hit by a pitch. Junior Spencer Scott plated Watkins with a sacrifice fly.

Senior Sincere Smith reached base on a fielder’s choice that scored Bedsole. Junior Greyson Heustess walked, and Wooten belted a single that scored Smith for a 6-0 Eagle lead.

The Vikings scored two sixth-inning runs on 3 walks, a hit batter and 2 passed balls, then tacked on the seventh inning run on Nigel Ceesay’s double.

Catcher Gabe Barber batted 3-4 to lead the Eagle hitters. Hollingsworth finished 2-2 at the plate with a run scored and a run batted in. Wooten batted 2-4 with an rbi. Smith and Watkins added one hit each.

Smith drove in 2 runs, and Watkins and Scott had one rbi each. Pone scored twice, and Smith, Bedsole and Watkins scored one run each.

Cole Benton batted 2-4 to lead the Viking hitters. Cody Benton started on the mound for West Columbus.

Coach Russell Priest’s Eagles will travel to Fairmont Friday night.
