CERRO GORDO – Senior Troy Green scored 3 runs, drove in 3 runs and pitched 2 scoreless innings of relief to lead West Columbus to a 9-5 non-conference baseball victory over West Bladen Friday night.

Green reached on a fielder’s choice in the 1st inning, stole a base and raced home on an error with the 1st Viking run. Another error and Evan Thompson’s single loaded the bases, before Brian Stewart slapped a 2-run single to right field for a 3-0 Viking lead.

Bryce Fuller drew a 2-out walk in the Knight 2nd inning, and senior Alex Brisson hammered a double to left. Junior Kaden Revels raked a single to left that scored Fuller and Brisson and trimmed the margin to 3-2.

Triston Freeman singled and J. T. Pate was hit by a pitch in the Viking 2nd inning. Green knocked in Freeman and Pate with a double. Frank DeLeon drove in Green with a single for a 6-2 Viking lead.

Senior Bryley Williams walked to begin the Knight 3rd inning. Two errors loaded the bases, before junior Hunter Elks drew a walk that forced home Williams.

Revels smashed a double to left field to start the Knight 4th inning, and junior Hunter Smith blasted a 2-run home run over the right field fence to slice the Viking lead to 6-5.

Green reached on an error in the home 4th, DeLeon singled and Evan Ward walked before Thompson’s fielder’s choice scored Green and padded the lead to 7-5.

An error, Pate’s bunt single, a stolen base and a wild pitch plated a Viking run in the 5th inning, and Green’s sacrifice fly brought home Pate for a 9-5 lead.

Pate batted 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored for the Vikings. DeLeon was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Stewart cracked the 2-run single. Ward pitched the first 5 innings to pick up the victory.

Freshman Brady Durden started on the mound for the Knights and worked 1.1 innings allowing 6 runs – 3 earned – on 6 hits and a walk. Senior Josh Russ pitched 4.1 innings of relief, giving up 3 runs – 1 earned – on 2 hits and 4 walks while striking out 5. Brisson came on to strike out the only batter he faced in the 6th inning.

Brisson batted 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Revels finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, 2 RBIs and a run scored. Smith slugged the 2-run homer, and Elks doubled and drove in a run. Senior Devon Strange belted a single for the other Knight hit. Fuller and Williams scored runs.

The Knights, now 1-2, will host South Columbus Tuesday at 7 p.m.
