DUBLIN – Senior Jake Brownlee fired in 22 of his 33 points in the first half as West Columbus built a 41-21 lead en route to an 81-58 Three Rivers Conference boys basketball victory over West Bladen Wednesday night.

Brownlee muscled in 7 points in the first period as the Vikings raced to an 18-7 lead. Sophmore Tyre Boykin drained a corner 3-ball, senior Jimmy Williams hooked in a runner, and senior Jonathan Robinson and junior Keshawn Lewis hit free throws for the Knight points.

Williams canned a free throw to begin the second period, and Boykin bombed in another 3-ball. Williams drove for a lay-up, and Lewis put back a rebound.

Robinson sank a free throw then banked in a baseline shot to slice the West Columbus lead to 24-18 with 4:42 left in the half. Eleven points by Brownlee sparked a 17-3 Viking run that closed the half.

Knight freshman Shyron Adams and junior Kerron Baldwin-Washington nailed 3-point shots to start the second half. Adams followed up his own miss to trim the Viking lead to 41-29.

Boykin flew down the lane for a lay-up then muscled in a bank shot to pull the Knights to within 44-33. Brownlee scored on a pair of rebound baskets during a 12-0 Viking spurt that padded the margin to 56-33.

Boykin netted another lay-up, and Williams canned 2 free throws. Baldwin-Washington drove for a lay-up and tacked on a free throw. Williams buried a 3-point shot to cap a 10-2 run that pulled West Bladen to within 58-43. The Vikings led 60-43 at the quarter break.

Knight sophmore Trashawn Ballard banged in a lay-up to begin the final period. Robinson flipped in a jump-hook then hit 2 free throws. Adams and junior Jaheim Lesane cashed in free throws to keep the margin at 66-51.

Ballard banked in an 8-footer, senior Gerardo Reyes made a free throw and Robinson powered in a lay-up and sank 2 free throws to keep West Bladen within 74-58.

“We couldn’t make shots,” said Knight Coach Travis Pait. “We didn’t turn the ball over much. They just out-athleted us.”

Boykin and Robinson shared scoring honors for West Bladen with 12 points each. Robinson pulled down 6 rebounds. Williams finished with 10 points. Adams scored 7 points and grabbed 5 rebounds.

West Bladen will entertain St. Pauls Friday night.
