Neveah Singletary and Emmanuel Drew walloped triples that keyed a seven-run fifth-inning and sparked Bladen County to an 11-2 victory over South Columbus in District 2 Coach-Pitch Tournament action at Tabor City Saturday.
With Bladen County already leading 4-2, Joshua Strickland and Aidan Russ cracked singles to begin the Bladen County fifth inning. Singletary hammered a triple that scored Strickland and Russ. Cade Allen knocked in Singletary with a single.
Conner Monroe and Malikah Moore followed with singles that loaded bases, before Drew crushed an opposite-field triple to right that cleared the bases, scoring Allen, Monroe and Moore.
Russ and Allen smacked singles in the Bladen first inning and both scored as the winners grabbed a 2-0 lead. Jonah Bryan and Allen connected for singles and scored runs in the Bladen third inning as the lead grew to 4-0.
South Columbus tallied 2 runs in the fourth to trim the margin to 4-2.
“We played really good defense today,” said Bladen Coach Joseph Russ. “Our kids did really well.”
Bryan batted 2-3 and scored a run. Russ finished 2-3 at the plate and scored twice. Allen scored 3 runs and connected for 2 hits in 3 at-bats. Monroe batted 2-3 with a run scored, and Moore turned in a 2-3 game with a run scored.
Tyler Jacobs batted a perfect 2-2 for Bladen County. Singletary contributed the 2-run triple and scored a run. Drew delivered the 3-run triple, and teammates Hunter Hester, Richard Severine and Joshua Strickland added one hit each. Strickland also scored a run.
Bladen County will play Monday at 7:30 against the winner of Sunday’s Whiteville/Columbus County game.
