WILMINGTON – In their 1st season of playing Dixie Softball, Bladen County’s Dixie Darlings All-Stars won 2 of their 4 games to post a 3rd place finish in the District 9 Tournament. Both Bladen losses were to Central Columbus Friday night and Sunday afternoon.

Saturday Bladen County defeated West Brunswick 16-7 and East Columbus 7-5.

Bladen County 16, West Brunswick 7

Bladen County banged out 8 hits in the 1st inning and jumped in front of West Brunswick 5-0. Bella Hester, Sully Peterson, Alivia Ammons, Averie Tew, Magnolia Everette, Adalynn Smith, Brynlee Gooden and Sadie Rabon all hit safely, and Hester, Peterson, Ammons, Tew and Smith all scored.

The Bladen lead grew to 10-1 in the 2nd inning. Avery Dowless, Hester, Eva Dove, Peterson, Ammons and Everette smacked singles, and Dowless, Hester, Dove, Peterson and Ammons all scored.

After West Brunswick closed the gap to 10-5, Bladen County pulled away in the 3rd inning. Rabon, Dowless, Kenley Yandle, Hester, Dove, Peterson and Ammons belted hits, and Rabon, Dowless, Yandle, Hester, Dove and Peterson all scored as the lead grew to 16-5.

Peterson batted 3-for-3 with 3 runs scored. Ammons finished 3-for-3 at the plate and scored twice. Dowless turned in a 2-for-2 game and scored twice. Hester batted 2-for-3 and scored 3 runs. Dove finished 2-for-3 and scored twice.

Tew batted 2-for-3 and scored a run. Magnolia Everette turned in a 2-for-3 game. Rabon batted 2-for-3 and scored a run. Smith, Gooden and Yandle added 1 hit each, and Smith and Yandle scored runs.

Bladen County 7, East Columbus 5

Bladen County built a 7-0 lead then withstood a late East Columbus rally to claim a 7-5 victory in Saturday’s 2nd game.

Hester rapped a single to start the game, and Dove slammed a double. Ammons followed with a single. Hester and Dove both scored to put Bladen up 2-0.

Smith, Rabon, Dowless, Gooden, Olivia Britt and Yandle cracked singles in the Bladen 2nd inning. Smith, Dowless and Gooden all scored to stretch the lead to 5-0.

Peterson and Ammons smashed hits to start the Bladen 3rd inning. Smith laced a single, and Peterson and Ammons both scored in the inning to pad the lead to 7-0.

Ammons and Smith both batted 2-for-2 and both scored runs to lead the Bladen hitters. Hester finished 2-for-3 with a run scored. Dove ripped a double and scored a run. Peterson, Rabon, Dowless, Gooden, Britt and Yandle connected for 1 hit each. Peterson, Dowless and Gooden scored 1 run each.
