ELIZABETHTOWN – Jordan Hester blasted a 3-run home run to tie the game then stole home with the go-ahead run as the Cubs edged the Braves 10-9 Wednesday night in the championship game of the Elizabethtown Dixie Youth Baseball Majors Tournament.

Hester drew a walk to start the Cubs seventh inning, advanced on wild pitches as Aiden Hargrove walked then raced home with the go-ahead run on the back end of a double-steal with Hargrove.

The Braves led 9-6 when Tyler Lewis and Gavin Elks drew walks to begin the Cub fifth inning, and Hester walloped a 3-run home run over the right-centerfield fence to tie the game 9-9.

Hester struck out six batters while pitching the final 3.2 innings for the Cubs. Elks struck out five in his 3.1 innings on the mound.

Zach Sholar started and pitched into the fifth inning for the Braves, and teammate Cole Butler struck out five batters in his 2.2 innings on the hill.

The Cubs jumped in front with six runs in the first inning. Lewis, Elks and Hester drew walks, and Jake Gooden scorched a grounder to the right side that went to the fence and cleaned the bases.

Hargrove dotted the leftfield line with a double that scored Gooden. Tredon Scott drove in Hargrove with a hit. Conner Padrick walked and scooted home when Isaiah Loftis smacked a single to rightfield.

Dunham hammered a triple to centerfield and scored the first Braves run in the home half of the first.

Hunter Simmons singled and scored in the Braves second inning. Sholar walked and darted home on a wild pitch in the third inning to trim the margin to 6-3.

Colin King and Nate Edwards drew walks to begin the Braves’ fourth inning. Dunham and Gabe Caswell cracked hits as King and Edwards scored. Dunham and Caswell raced home as Sholar belted a single. Butler laced a single to left that scored Sholar then stole home to put the Braves ahead 9-6.

Hargrove batted 2-4 with a double, a run batted in and a run scored for the Cubs. Hester slugged the 3-run homer and scored 3 runs. Gooden and Loftis added one hit each. Gooden had 2 rbi’s, and Loftis had an rbi. Lewis and Elks scored 2 runs each, and Gooden and Conner Padrick scored one run each.

Dunham batted 2-3 with a triple and 2 runs scored for the Braves. Sholar was 2-3 with 2 runs scored. Caswell batted 2-4 with a double and a run scored. Butler and Simmons added one hit each. Butler had an rbi, and Butler, Simmons, King and Edwards scored one run each.
