Redshirt freshman Kendall Turner and head coach Tommy Baker of the James Madison women’s golf team were named Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively, as the Colonial Athletic Association announced its end-of-season awards on Thursday.

Baker is the son of Dr. Warren Baker, formerly of White Lake.

Since he arrived at JMU prior to the 2018-19 season, Baker has made an immediate and massive impact on the program, according to the school’s web site, leading the Dukes to an exhilarating CAA Championship in just his second opportunity, as JMU came back from 16 shots down in the final round to capture its first title since 2013.

This year’s squad, which does not include any upperclassmen, set new program records for scoring average (301.52), par-3 scoring and par-5 scoring, while both notching the lowest round and 54-hole score in JMU history. The Dukes also tallied three rounds of par-or-better as a team this year after there was only one such round on record in the program.
