CERRO GORDO – Senior Aaniyah Jackson pumped in 13 points, and 3 teammates scored in double figures as East Bladen’s Lady Eagles rolled to a 64-22 girls basketball victory over West Columbus Wednesday night.
Juniors Mya McDonald and Alexus Mitchell and sophomore Maegan Burney tallied 11 points each for the winners. Freshman Zoe Smith fired in 6 points, and sophomore AnnaGrey Heustess and senior Sara Gargala added 5 points each.
McDonald dished out 6 assists and came up with 7 steals. Gargala finished with 4 rebounds, 2 blocked shots and 2 steals. Mitchell, Smith and Jackson had 2 steals each. Mitchell and senior Lily Lin had 2 assists each. Heustess grabbed 3 rebounds, and Mitchell, Lin, Burney and sophomore Karli Priest pulled down 2 rebounds each.
McDonald tossed in 3 baskets and 2 free throws as the Lady Eagles raced to an early 16-6 lead. Mitchell drained a 3-point shot and 2 free throws, and Gargala worked the paint for a basket and a free throw.
Heustess flipped in 2 baskets and a free throw to spark a 15-2 2nd quarter blitz by the Lady Eagles. Mitchell nailed another 3-point shot, Burney threw in a basket and a free throw, and Gargala and Jackson tacked on baskets as the lead grew to 31-8 at halftime.
Burney blistered the nets with 4 baskets during a 26-11 East surge in the 3rd period. Smith bombed in a pair of 3-point baskets. Jackson delivered a trio of baskets, McDonald knocked down a 3-point shot, and Mitchell contributed a basket and a free throw as the margin swelled to 57-19.
Jackson fired in a 3-pointer and another basket in the fourth quarter. Sophomore Karli Priest netted another Lady Eagle basket.
Haley Brown scored 9 of her 17 points for West Columbus in the 3rd quarter.
Coach Patty Evers’ Lady Eagles improved to 2-0 and will host South Columbus Tuesday.
