ELIZABETHTOWN – Shannon Hankins and Peyton Tatum sparked East Bladen to an early 11-5 lead en route to a 36-24 non-conference jayvee boys basketball victory over South Columbus Friday night.
Hankins nailed a 3 point shot and 2 free throws in the opening period, and Tatum dropped in a basket and a free throw in the period.
Chace Butler, Darius Williamson and big Rodney Lacewell netted baskets in the 2nd quarter for the winners. Zac Metz sank a trio of free throws, and Tatum pumped in 2 more foul shots as the Eagle lead grew to 22-12 at halftime.
Lacewell powered in another basket, and Tatum converted 2 foul shots to keep the East lead at 27-20. Butler and Williamson tossed in baskets, and Kewone Maynor and Williamson canned free throws in the final period.
Tatum topped the Eagle scoring with 8 points. Williamson totaled 6 points, and Lacewell and Hankins scored 5 points each.
Coach Aking Elting’s Eagle JV’s improved to 3-2 and will be idle until January.
