Union’s Spartans scored the last 9 points of the game to rally past East Bladen 58-55 in Four County Conference jayvee boys basketball action at Union Friday night.

Sophmore Xavier Wooten sank 6 of 8 free throws and scored 8 of his team-high 16 points, and Deondre Newkirk dropped in 2 baskets to help build a 55-49 Eagle lead with 1:20 remaining before the Spartans rallied.

Darrell Banks and Sadique Ingram bombed in two 3-point shots each in the opening quarter as the Eagles edged ahead 18-17. Center Zaire Turner-Dobson worked the paint for 2 baskets in the period.

Wooten muscled in 4 baskets in the second quarter, Banks nailed another 3-point shot, and Turner-Dobson dropped in 2 more baskets as the Eagles stretched their lead to 33-26 at halftime.

Ingram buried another 3-point shot and added another basket in the third quarter, but Union fought back to within 42-36 at the quarter break.

Ingram finished with 11 points, and Banks followed with 10 points. Turner-Dobson totaled 8 points.

East Bladen will travel to West Bladen Tuesday.
