BLADENBORO — Jonah Bryan scored three goals and Darwin Garcia added a deciding goal Monday afternoon as the West Bladen junior varsity boys’ soccer team held off Lumberton 4-3.

Lumberton had a 2-1 lead at half with Bryan scoring the West Bladen tally. Bryan scored twice more in the second half that gave the Knights a 3-2 advantage. Both goals came from in close, beating the Lumberton keeper with finesse moves.

Garcia’s goal came with about 5 minutes remaining that seemingly put the Knights comfortably ahead with a two-goal lead.

However, Lumberton scored with less than two minutes remaining and threatened to tie it a couple times in the final 90 seconds.

Aiden Russ had the only assist for the Knights.

West Bladen keeper Dylan Hernandez was credited with nine saves.

The West Bladen JVs are 2-1 and are scheduled to host the East Bladen JVs on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. This is the first season of junior varsity soccer for West Bladen.
