RED SPRINGS – East Bladen’s jayvee Lady Eagles outlasted Red Springs 26-24 in the opening set then took the 2nd set 25-12 to post a 2-0 Southeastern Athletic Conference volleyball victory Tuesday. It was the 5th straight win for East Bladen.

Freshman Jenna Brice fired in a trio of service points to stake the Lady Eagles to a 16-11 lead in the opening set. Red Springs rallied for a 21-19 lead, but sophomore Mary Frances Sutton answered with a trio of service points to push East in front 22-21.

Sophomore Martha Simmons vaulted East in front 24-23 with a service point, before sophomore Iveonna “NeNe” Ward served out the set.

Ward and Zoe Sutton delivered strings of 3 service points each as East Bladen built a 12-4 lead in the 2nd set. Sutton swatted in a pair of service points, and Simmons reeled off 4 more service points as the lead grew to 20-10.

Ward slammed in 8 attacks, 6 kills, 5 aces and 2 other service points to lead the winners. Sutton slammed in 3 kills, 2 aces, 4 other service points and 5 attacks. Jenna Brice belted in 6 service points including 5 aces.

Simmons filled up the stat columns with 3 aces, 2 other service points, 3 attacks, 2 kills and a block for the Lady Eagles. Sophomore Mollie Tolar rang up 3 attacks, a kill, 2 blocks and 2 aces.

Smith hammered in 3 kills, 2 aces, 2 other service points and 4 attacks for East. Rylee Brice came up with 3 digs, and Aubrie Nixon finished with 3 attacks and a kill. Bridget Taylor added 1 attack.

Coach Jessica Eason’s Lady Eagles improved to 4-1 in SAC-7 play and 7-4 overall. East Bladen will host St. Pauls Thursday.
