ELIZABETHTOWN – A 3-run first-inning propelled Bladenboro to a 6-4 victory over Elizabethtown Tuesday in Bladen Five Middle School Conference baseball action.

The Bulldogs bunched one-out singles by Devon Strange, Brycen Blackmon, and Michael Young to score their first run, before Kaiden Stanley slammed a 2-run double for the 3-0 lead.

Chase Starkloff led off the Cougar first with a hit and scored on Jackson Wright’s hit to trim the margin to 3-1.

Blackmon began the Bulldog third inning with a hit, and Stanley drove him in to push the lead to 4-1. Trenton walked in the Bladenboro fourth inning, and Devon Strange knocked him in with a single to grow the lead to 5-1.

Elizabethtown answered with 2 runs in the home fourth. Hunter Elks and Ahmad Powell belted hits and scored the Cougar runs. Jackson Wright cracked a single in the Cougar fifth and raced home on Coleman Tatum’s hit to slice the lead to 5-4.

Devon Strange smacked a single to begin the Bladenboro sixth inning, and Stanley clubbed another double to drive him in.

Stanley batted 3-4 with 2 doubles and 4 runs batted in to lead the Bulldog attack. Strange finished 3-4 at the plate with 2 runs scored and an rbi. Blackmon batted 2-2 with 2 runs scored. Young had an rbi hit, and Trenton scored a run.

Stanley pitched the first 5 innings to pick up the win for the Bulldogs. Alex Strange pitched a 1-2-3 sixth inning to record the save.

Wright cracked 2 hits, drove in a run and scored one for the Cougars. Coleman Tatum drove in a run with a hit. Powell, Elks and Starkloff all collected hits and scored runs.

“This was a great game for us,” said Bulldog Coach Jerry Strange. “The kids hit the ball and played good baseball.”
