HALLSBORO — East Columbus capitalized on 5 Elizabethtown errors and defeated the Cougars 10-4 Thursday in Waccamaw Middle School Conference baseball action.

The Cougars, now 0-2, will visit Clarkton School of Discovery Monday.

Three errors, a B. Robinson single and a walk produced 5 Hawk runs in the 1st inning.

Pitcher Fox Sutton belted a lead-off single in the Elizabethtown 2nd inning and stole a base. After Isaiah Lloyd was hit by a pitch, Trey Wilson knocked in Sutton with a single.

The Cougars trimmed the East lead to 5-4 in the 3rd inning. Jayden Lewis smacked a single and stole 2 bases while Chandler Wall walked. Sutton’s ground ball scored Lewis. Lloyd laced a single that plated Wall. Lloyd stole 2 bases and raced home when Wilson laced a single.

K. Coker’s 2-run single capped a 2-run East Columbus rally in the 4th inning, and another Robinson single, along with an error and 2 walks resulted in 3 more runs in the 5th inning.

Wilson batted 2-for-3 with 2 runs batted in to lead the Cougar hitters. Wall, Lewis, Sutton, Lloyd and Jayden Byrd connected for 1 hit each. Wall, Lewis, Sutton and Lloyd scored runs, and Sutton had an RBI.

Sutton pitched 4.1 innings for Elizabethtown and allowed 10 runs – 2 earned – on 5 hits and 3 walks while striking out 5. Khalil Moore worked 0.1 innings and walked 1.

J. Dorsey pitched 4 innings for the Hawks and allowed 4 runs on 6 hits while striking out 8 and walking 1. Coker batted 2-for-3 with a double and 2 runs scored. Robinson was 2-for-2 with 2 runs scored.
