HALLSBORO – East Columbus built a 7-1 lead en route to a 9-5 Waccamaw Middle School Conference baseball victory over Elizabethtown Tuesday.

The Hawks converted 2 errors, 2 hits and a walk into a trio of 1st inning runs. Isaiah Lee led off the Cougar 2nd inning with a walk, and Braylon Cromartie lined a single to right field. After J. D. McArthur walked, Adonis Smith hammered a double to center field that scored Lee, but Cromartie was thrown out at the plate.

Four consecutive walks and an error produced 3 more Hawk runs in the 3rd inning as the lead grew to 6-1. East Columbus stretched the lead to 7-1 on a walk and an error in the 4th inning.

Chace Butler reached base on an error to start the Cougar 5th inning, and Colton Daly knocked him in with a single to right field. McCracken yanked a single to left, and Lee pounded a single to right as Daly and McCracken scored to slice the EC lead to 7-4.

East Columbus pushed the lead up to 9-4 in the bottom of the fifth. Butler pulled a single to right field to begin the Cougar 6th inning. After Daly walked, McCracken ripped a single to left that scored Butler.

McCracken finished 2-3 at the plate with 2 runs batted in and a run scored. Smith doubled home a run. Lee singled, walked twice, scored a run and had an RBI. Daly singled, walked twice, scored a run and had an RBI. Butler singled and scored twice, and Cromartie, Aiden Williams and Whittington connected for 1 hit each.

Elizabethtown, now 2-2, will host West Columbus Thursday at 4 p.m.
