WHITEVILLE – Whiteville Central rode a pair of 4-run innings to a 9-4 non-conference softball victory over Emereau Bladen Tuesday.

It was Emereau’s 1st loss of the season after 5 straight wins, and for Central the victory avenged an earlier 6-3 loss to the Lady Aviators.

The Lady Aviators grabbed a quick 1-0 lead as Mollie Tolar drilled a double to center field and raced home when Jenna Brice smashed a single to right field.

Central rallied with 4 runs in the 2nd inning on 2 hits, a walk and an error. S. Kelly’s 3-run home run to left field highlighted the inning.

Taylor Dowless drew a lead-off walk in the Lady Aviator 2nd inning. Tolar hammered a double over the right fielder’s head that scored Dowless. Brice’s fielder’s choice plated Tolar and trimmed the Central lead to 4-3.

The Lady Hornets scored a run in the 3rd inning then opened up their lead with a 4-run, 6th inning. Three walks, a single by Kelly and C. Cribb’s double keyed the Central rally.

Dowless lined a single off the diving third baseman’s glove to start the Emereau 7th inning. Dowless was retired on Tolar’s fielder’s choice. Brice reached on an error, and Martha Simmons knocked in Tolar with a single to center field. However a caught stealing and a ground-out ended the game.

Aubrei Nixon batted 2-3 with a double to lead the Emereau hitters. Tolar slammed 2 doubles, scored twice and drove in a run. Dowless, Simmons and Miriam DeVane connected for one hit each, and Dowless scored a run.

Brice pitched a complete game and allowed 5 hits and 6 walks while striking out four.
