ELIZABETHTOWN – Nakina defeated Clarkton School of Discovery 11-4 Wednesday in a Waccamaw Middle School Conference baseball game at Bladen County Park.

The Blue Devils, now 1-1 on the season, will host Elizabethtown Monday.

Nakina bunched 2 hits, 2 errors and a walk to scored 4 runs in the 1st inning. Two more errors and a hit resulted in 3 more runs in the 2nd as the visitors built a 7-1 lead.

Omar Powell reached on an error in the Blue Devil 1st inning and scored on Prince Powell’s fielder’s choice. In the CSD 4th, Ryne Priest walked, Cayden Stocks reached on an error and Owen Hall was hit by a pitch. Smith pounded a double, and Priest, Stocks and Hall all scored to trim the deficit to 10-4.

Jerod Smith batted 2-for-2 with a double and 2 runs batted in to lead the Clarkton hitters. Hall singled and scored a run, and Omar Powell, Priest and Stocks scored runs. Prince Powell drove in a run.

Omar Powell started and pitched 4 innings for the Blue Devils allowing 10 runs – 2 earned – on 8 hits and a walk while striking out 5. Smith pitched 2 hitless innings of relief and allowed an unearned run while striking out 5.
