CLARKTON – Bladenboro raced to a 9-0 first quarter lead en route to a 38-28 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys basketball victory over Clarkton School of Discovery Tuesday night.
Anthony Mitchell sparked the early Bulldog spurt with 4 straight free throws. Center Deonte Lacy muscled in a basket and a free throw, and Gary Parker popped in a basket.
Bladenboro forward Michael Young tossed in a basket and 2 free throws in the second quarter, and Walter Bealon drilled in a 3-point shot. Mitchell added a basket as the Bulldogs built a 19-6 halftime lead.
Samaj Dove fired in a 3-point shot and a free throw in the second quarter for Clarkton, and Rodney Lacewell threw in a basket. Shannon Hankins bombed in a 3-point shot and another basket for the Blue Devils in the third period. Nyquan Richardson dropped in a pair of baskets, and Dove and Lacewell made free throws.
Mitchell nailed a 3-point shot and 2 free throws in the third period for Bladenboro. Parker and Hezekiah Adams netted a basket each to keep the Bulldogs on top 28-17 at the quarter break. Jabari Adams pumped in a trio of baskets in the final quarter, and Parker and Cade Allen added baskets for the Bulldogs.
Richardson connected for a pair of baskets for the Blue Devils in the final quarter, and Dove canned a basket and 2 free throws. Lacewell tacked on a basket in the period.
Mitchell led the Bulldogs with 11 points. Parker and Jabari Adams finished with 6 points each, and Young followed with 4 points.
Dove topped the Blue Devil scoring with 9 points, and Richardson followed with 8 points. Hankins and Lacewell finished with 5 points each.
Coach Phil Penny’s Bulldogs improved to 4-2 and will host Nakina Thursday. Clarkton, now 2-5, will host Elizabethtown Thursday.
