NAKINA – A 14-2 fourth-quarter blitz rallied Clarkton School of Discovery to a 32-21 Waccamaw Middle School Conference victory over Nakina Thursday night.
The Blue Devils trailed 19-18 after 3 periods, but Ja’Nathan Johnson threw in 2 baskets, and Rodney Lacewell sank a basket and 2 free throws to ignite the comeback. Blaine Pope, Noah Hall and Lee Barnes tossed in baskets during the winning run.
Barnes nailed a 3-point shot, another basket and 2 free throws, and Lacewell contributed a basket and a free throw as the Blue Devils grabbed an early 10-5 lead.
Keyon McKoy buried a 3-point shot, and Barnes dropped in a basket and a free throw to keep the Blue Devils ahead 16-10 at halftime.
Nakina’s Daquan Cox buried a pair of 3-point shots as the Mustangs rode a 9-2 spurt to a 19-18 lead. Barnes scored the only Clarkton basket in the quarter.
Barnes led the Blue Devil scoring with 14 points. Lacewell finished with 7 points. Cox led the Mustangs with 8 points.
Coach Robert Mazur’s Blue Devils, now 1-1 on the season, will play Elizabethtown Monday in the Bladen County Tournament at Bladenboro.
