Clarkton School of DiscoveryGreyson Heustess and Adonis Avery scored 14 points each to propel Clarkton School of Discovery to a 46-25 Bladen Five Middle School Conference boys basketball victory over host Bladenboro Tuesday.

During a tight first quarter, Clarkton scored on inside baskets by Adonis Avery, Pierce Melvin, and Seven Campbell.  Free throws by Greyson Heustess and Melvin gave Clarkton a slim 8-7 lead after one quarter.

After Bladenboro took an early lead in the second period, Avery and Teyshaun Berkley combined for three inside baskets.  More free throws by Heustess and Melvin gave Clarkton an 18-17 lead going into halftime.

Clarkton turned up the tempo and continued to hit the backboards hard to open the third period.  Avery and Heustess drove to the goal for a basket each.

Melvin hit a three pointer and a free throw to extend the Clarkton lead.  Heustess and Avery connected on two free throws apiece to stretch the Clarkton lead to 31-23 at the end of the third period.

Clarkton turned up the defensive pressure and attacked the goal from the start of the fourth quarter.  Campbell and Heustess continued their strong inside play with a basket each.

Avery and Heustess each converted four free throws and Melvin connected on two free throws to extend the lead.  Shy Pone hit one free throw to round out the scoring.

Melvin threw in 11 points for the Blue Devils, while Campbell grabbed a team-high 16 rebounds.

Trenton Lyons topped the Bladenboro scoring with 8 points, and teammate Kerron Washington tossed in 7 points.

On the night, Clarkton connected on 24 of 44 free throws which upset Bulldog Coach Richie Love. “We were 1 for 2 at the line in the second half, while they made 20 of 34,” said Coach Love. “That 19-point difference is hard to overcome.”

Clarkton School of Discovery remains unbeaten at 5-0, while Bladenboro drops to 3-2.
