Tall Javant McDowell blistered the nets with 26 points Thursday to lead Clarkton School of Discovery to a 47-32 Bladen Five Middle School Conference boys basketall victory over visiting East Arcadia.
McDowell worked the paint for 5 first quarter baskets and a free throw as the Blue Devils built a 15-8 lead. Teammates Jake Evans and Xavier McKoy contributed a basket each.
Kasey Price threw in a trio of baskets for the Panthers in the period, and Charles Brown made another basket.
Four baskets by Tashuan Berkley sparked a 10-4 second quarter surge that carried CSD to a 25-12 halftime lead. McDowell made 2 free throws in the quarter.
Price pumped in a pair of baskets for East Arcadia in the period.
McDowell collected a trio of third quarter baskets and a free throw as the lead grew to 38-21. Berkley dropped in 2 more buckets in the period, and Jacob Priest scored one.
Price and Brown scored 4 points each in the quarter for the Panthers.
McDowell battled inside for 3 more baskets in the fourth period, and teammate Garrett Melvin sank a free throw and a basket.
Brown and Sterling Thomas made 2 baskets each for East Arcadia in the final quarter, and Price hit 2 free throws.
Berkeley finished with 12 points for the Blue Devils. Price topped the East Arcadia scoring with 16 points, and Brown followed with 10 points. Thomas finshed with 5 points.
