LAKE WACCAMAW – Adrion Jenrette and Samuel Hampton combined for a trio of 3-balls and 12 points in overtime Thursday that lifted East Columbus to a 41-39 double overtime victory over Tar Heel in Waccamaw Middle School boys’ basketball action.

The teams were tied 29-29 after regulation play. Tavion Smith sank 4 free throws and a basket for Tar Heel in the overtime periods. Teammate Axel Martinez swished 2 free throws, and Kaleb Gaddy and Ahmarie White added a free throw each.

Tavion Smith finished with a game-high 18 points for the Panthers. Teammate Dguan Smith followed with 6 points, and Gaddy and White tallied 5 points each.

Tymarion Baldwin led the Hawk scorers with 15 points, and Jenrette and Hampton scored 9 points each.

Gaddy and Dguan Smith sparked the Panthers to an early 11-3 lead by firing in 2 baskets each, and Tavion Smith drained a 3-point shot. White popped in 2 baskets in the 2nd quarter, and Josiah Belle-Robinson, Tavion Smith and Dguan Smith pumped in a basket each. Martinez hit a free throw to pad the Tar Heel halftime lead to 22-12.

Baldwin rallied the Hawks scoring 8 points in the 3rd period to key a 13-1 East rally that vaulted the Hawks in front 25-23.

Tavion Smith’s free throw accounted for the lone Tar Heel point in the 3rd quarter, then he bombed in a pair of 3-point shots in the final period to pull the Panthers even at 29-29.
