ELIZABETHTOWN – Malcolm Bolden fired in 20 points Thursday night to lead Elizabethtown to a 37-24 Bladen Five Middle School Conference boys basketball victory over Tar Heel.

Bolden raced to the basket for four baskets in the first quarter. Teammate Jacob Nixon buried a 3-point shot, and Ty Mathis muscled in a basket as the Cougars took a 13-6 lead.

Center Lancine Soumanoro worked the paint for a pair of Tar Heel baskets, and teammate Antonio Candelaria drove for a basket.

Soumanoro and Candelaria tossed in a basket each for the Panthers in the second quarter. Bolden flipped in another basket, and Raymond Autry hit a free throw to keep the Cougars ahead 16-10.

Bolden threw in a pair of baskets in the third quarter, and Nixon knocked down another 3-point shot. Mathis and Autry added baskets as the Cougars padded their lead to 27-17.

Soumanoro battled inside for 2 more baskets in the third quarter, and Candelaria scored another basket in transition for Tar Heel. Teammate Anthony Cowan made a free throw.

Bolden racked up 3 more baskets in the final period to keep the Cougars ahead, and Mathis powered his way to 2 more baskets. Mathis finished with 8 points for Elizabethtown.

Soumanoro pumped in 2 more baskets in the fourth quarter for Tar Heel, and Cowan bombed in a 3-point basket. Soumanoro topped the Panther scoring with 14 points, and Candelaria followed with 6 points.

Elizabethtown improved to 3-0 on the season with the victory.
