BLADENBORO – AnnaGrey Heustess and Mariah Smith combined for 17 points Thursday to lead Clarkton School of Discovery to a 25-15 Bladen Five Middle School Conference girls basketball victory over Bladenboro.
Heustess dropped in a basket, and Smith netted a free throw as the Lady Blue Devils jumped out to a 3-0 first quarter lead.
Addie Bowen sank a basket and 2 free throws in the second quarter, Heustess tossed in a basket and a free throw, and Lauryn Williams threw in a basket to lead Clarkton to a 12-4 halftime lead.
Lainey Autry broke the scoring ice for Bladenboro with a pair of free throws in the second period, and teammate Rylee Chadwick pumped in a basket.
Chadwick nailed a 3-point shot in the third quarter, and Autry and Hannah Hester flipped in a basket each to keep the Lady Bulldogs within 19-11.
Smith canned a basket and 2 free throws for CSD in the third period. Heustess worked the paint for a basket and a free throw.
Heustess made a trio of free throws in the final quarter and led all scorers with 10 points. Smith tacked on a free throw and totaled 7 points in the game. Karli Priest popped in a basket for Clarkton in the fourth period.
Autry and Hannah Pait hurled in baskets for Bladenboro in the final quarter. Autry topped the Lady Bulldog scoring with 6 points, and Chadwick finished with 5 points.
Clarkton improved to 2-1 with the victory, and Bladenboro is now 1-1.
